Engine: Diagnostics and Performance
Is your Check Engine light on?
The Check Engine light is a part of your car’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) system, and can indicate anything from a loose gas cap to a dangerously misfiring engine. In order to avoid further damage (and more costly repairs!) bring your car in for a diagnostics system inspection as soon as you see the light go on.
What it means
Cars and trucks are controlled by complex computer systems that determine the vehicle’s emissions, performance and safety, and monitor all engine and transmission concerns. When your car’s computer finds a problem that it can’t correct, it illuminates the dreaded Check Engine light in order to alert you. While this doesn’t mean that you need to pull over and immediately call a tow truck, you should get your vehicle checked out as soon as possible to prevent further problems. By ignoring the warning, you can end up losing fuel economy or damaging expensive components, causing the need for costly repairs down the line.
What to do
The Check Engine light may be indicating a number of different problems. A full diagnosis must be completed in order to determine the precise cause, and establish if any repairs need to be made. At D & M, our trained technicians use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to decipher your car’s engine issues.
By letting D & M Auto Service diagnose and repairs any faults, you can save money and avoid unnecessary repairs.
